On the weekend of March 4th, Coast hosted its first annual Coast Champions Invitational. The goal of the event was multifaceted with our main objective being to reward the leagues “5 Star Teams” with a celebratory tournament. This invite only event is for 5 star teams and clubs who have supported the league’s aim of providing the best and most positive game environment for its members.
The CSL 5 Star ratings highlight how your peers and referees rated your team during the season. As you may be familiar with, after each CSL game teams and referees are asked to rate the opposing team on a series of questions. Did you show respect, did you play the game the right way, and were you part of a positive game day experience?
This valuable tool is unique to CSL and offers the league a way to reward teams beyond just the result on the scoreboard. CSL’s 5 Star rating system allows the league to identify teams who are also winners in life. Teams who were rated above a 4.5 average star rating for the Fall 2022 season were invited to play in the Coast Invitational.
The 1st annual Coast Invitational was played on March 4th and 5th, and consisted of over 50 teams in 12 different age brackets. Games were played in a competitive but celebratory atmosphere, with fields and flags dressing the fields. The San Bernadino Sports Complex provided a great venue despite the heavy rain that preceded the event.
Saturday saw the beginning of pool play and the action was intense as teams battled to position themselves at the top of their bracket. For some teams, this was their first opportunity to play in a tournament environment. Sunday saw more great action and pool play was concluded by mid-day for most. In many age groups winners of pool play would go onto to play in the Finals. Due to the events qualifications every team was a winner before all ball was kicked, but we want to congratulate the winners of each bracket.
CSL would like to say thanks to those who participated the 1st annual Coast Champions Invitational and we look forward to building an even bigger and better event next year!
